Nothing’s more frustrating than that awkward freeze mid-meeting or when your family movie night cuts out. We all want to blame slow internet, but sometimes the culprit is surprisingly simple. Let’s run through some quick DIY fixes to get you back online without a lengthy tech support call.
Tip #1: Check the Basics
Sound silly? It’s not! Loose cords happen. Briefly unplug your modem/router, wait 30 seconds, and plug them back in.
WiFi Woes: If you’re wireless, are you way further from the router than usual? Walls weaken signals – try moving closer, even for just a test.
Device Overload: If everyone at home is streaming at once, it strains any connection. Pause those downloads for a moment, see if that helps.
Tip #2: Investigate Your Software
Update Time: Outdated apps, especially video conferencing, can be buggy. Check for updates on both your computer/device and the specific program.
Bandwidth Hogs: Something running in the background chewing up data? Close unnecessary tabs, pause any ongoing file transfers.
Restart Power: After updates, a full device restart is sometimes needed for changes to take effect.
Tip #3: Test Your Speed
Easy & Reliable: Go to www.speedtest.net or www.fast.com and run the test. Compare the results to your ZIRKEL plan’s speeds.
Timing Matters: If it’s usually glitchy at peak evening hours, that IS suggestive of congestion from your ISP, not your own setup.
Document: If speed IS way off consistently, screenshot results along with the time/date. This is helpful info for support.
When to Call ZIRKEL (Or Any ISP):
Tried ALL This, Still Bad: We’re here for that! Having this info ready saves tech support time, helping you get fixed faster.
Whole House is Down: If nothing gets ANY internet, that’s likely not a device issue, time to contact us at 970-871-8500 or support@zirkel.us.
